The Last Passenger on the Bus: A Terrifying Encounter on an Empty Road
The last bus of the evening was almost empty when 25-year-old Daniel climbed aboard.
It was raining heavily, and the streets of his small town were unusually quiet.
Daniel had missed his usual bus after working late. The driver, an elderly man with tired eyes, barely acknowledged him as he paid his fare.
“Last stop?” the driver asked.
“Mill Road, please.”
The driver nodded.
“Sit near the front tonight.”
Daniel thought the request was strange but didn’t question it.
The Woman at the Back
As the bus pulled away, Daniel noticed a woman sitting in the very last row.
She wore a long grey coat, and her dark hair covered most of her face.
He hadn’t seen her when he boarded.
Every few minutes, Daniel glanced toward the rearview mirror.
The woman remained perfectly still.
Then, as the bus passed an abandoned petrol station, she slowly raised her head.
Daniel noticed something disturbing.
She was staring directly at him.
He quickly looked away.
The Driver’s Warning
At the next traffic light, the driver leaned toward Daniel.
“Whatever happens, don’t speak to the woman at the back.”
Daniel frowned.
“Why?”
The driver’s hands tightened around the steering wheel.
“Because she got off this bus twenty years ago.”
Daniel laughed nervously.
“What does that mean?”
The driver didn’t answer.
Instead, he accelerated through the empty streets.
Suddenly, a soft voice came from behind Daniel.
“Excuse me. Is this Mill Road?”
It was the woman.
Daniel remembered the warning and remained silent.
The voice came again.
“Daniel, I’m asking you a question.”
His blood ran cold.
He had never told her his name.
The Empty Seat
When the bus finally reached Mill Road, Daniel rushed toward the exit.
Before stepping outside, he glanced toward the back.
The woman’s seat was empty.
He turned to the driver.
“Where did she go?”
The driver looked confused.
“Who?”
“The woman in the grey coat!”
The driver’s face turned pale.
“Son, you’ve been the only passenger all evening.”
Daniel stepped onto the pavement.
The bus doors closed.
As the vehicle pulled away, he noticed the woman sitting behind the driver.
She was smiling.
Then his phone vibrated.
An unknown number had sent him a photograph.
It showed Daniel sitting on the bus.
The picture had been taken from the seat directly behind him.
Beneath it were five words.
“You should have answered me.”
Daniel slowly turned around.
Someone wearing a grey coat stood beneath the streetlight.
And the last bus was already gone.
The End.
